Your ID check on SceneTown
One check, done by Stripe, so SceneTown stays a place for adults. This page says what it collects, where that lives, and what stays yours.
It is a one-time $2.50 check, plus any applicable tax, paid before the ID check opens.
What is collected and who keeps it
What Stripe sees
- A photo of your government ID
- A selfie, which Stripe matches to the ID
- What the document says: your name, date of birth and document details
Stripe runs the check on its own pages and shows you its own notice before it begins. It keeps this under its own privacy policy and retention terms.
What SceneTown keeps
- The result: an adult, yes or no
- How it was checked: a government ID with a matching selfie
- When it was decided, and which version of our policy applied
- A reference for the Stripe session, so we can find it if you ask us to
If a check does not pass, we also keep the short reason Stripe gives, so we can help when you write in.
What we never keep
- The photos of your ID or your selfie
- Your date of birth
- Your legal name or address
- Your document number
We read the verified date of birth from Stripe for a moment, turn it into an adult yes-or-no, and let it go. It never reaches our storage, and none of the photos, your date of birth or your name is ever written to a blockchain.
Why there is a check
- Adults only
- SceneTown is for adults 18 and older. Before some parts of SceneTown open, you pass one check, so we know without taking anyone's word for it.
- Creating, selling, hosting
- The same check is the floor for uploading music, selling and hosting a show. You pass it once and it counts for all of them.
Your name here stays yours
The check never touches your display name or your handle. Stripe reads your legal name from the document; we do not use it, and nobody matches it against what you call yourself here. The only thing we take from the check is whether you are an adult.
If you sell and get paid, Stripe Connect asks for the name and tax details a payout legally needs. That is a separate step, run by Stripe, and the Privacy Policy covers it.
How long we keep it, and how to delete it
- How long
- For as long as you have an account, so we never have to ask again, and afterward only as long as the law requires. The decision has no expiry date.
- To delete it
- Delete your account from your settings or from Your data rights, or email privacy@scenetown.com. When we carry out the erasure we also ask Stripe to redact your verification, which deletes the document and selfie Stripe holds.
- To ask Stripe directly
- Stripe answers requests about the data it holds under its own privacy policy, linked below.
- If it does not pass
- You get a neutral answer and can try again after a waiting period; nothing in the answer says why. If you believe a decision is wrong, write to privacy@scenetown.com and a person will review it.
Who can see what
The photos never enter the product. Only Stripe, and the people who administer SceneTown's Stripe account, can open them.

Verification by Stripe
The same company that handles your card handles your ID. Your document and selfie go to Stripe and stay there; what comes back to SceneTown is an answer, not the evidence.
